I am currently researching my family history as well as studying creative writing and I am working on a project to bring these two things together. The Methodist Church has been a large part of my family's life for many years and I am currently researching a particular church in my village of Hoyland, Barnsley, South Yorkshire. The church in question is the Bethel MNC Chapel which was built in 1880 and demolished as part of the urban regeneration in 1963. Many of my family members were heavily involved with this Chapel including my father who was christened and married there. Unfortuantely I have had little luck in finding pictures or informatin about the chapel's history and would be very interested in hearing from anyone who may be able to help with this.
Down is my family name and having done some initial research I know that my great grandfather came to Barnsley in the late 1880's from Cornwall where he was born and brought up. However his father (my great great grandfather) was born in Devon. I know that 'Down' is still a common name in both of these areas of England and so I would be interested to hear from anyone with links to James and/or James Henry Down.
